Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the role of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse, in fraud detection and improving the accuracy of financial reporting. A mixed survey–library research method with a descriptive-correlational design was employed. The statistical population consisted of corporate managers, auditors, and financial supervisors, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The descriptive statistical results indicated that auditors demonstrated the highest level of familiarity with and the most positive attitudes toward the application of AI in reducing human error and detecting fraud, whereas attitudes toward the metaverse were more cautious and exhibited greater variability. Statistical analyses, including the one-sample t test and multiple linear regression, showed that familiarity with and application of AI, as well as familiarity with the metaverse, had positive and significant effects on reducing human error. The findings emphasize that developing knowledge and skills related to the use of intelligent technologies and applying such technologies in financial environments can play an effective role in enhancing transparency, accuracy, and trust in the financial reporting process. This study provides a scientific foundation for designing operational models based on intelligent technologies and reducing risks associated with human error.
